Lake Tahoe

Each year the Golden State Karate Association (GSKA) and President Robin Taberna host the Clash of the Warriors tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The GSKA tournament season runs from January to September, with monthly tournaments held throughout Northern California and the Central Valley. GSKA is currently in its 16th season of operations.

In October of each year, GSKA and its competitors who qualify make the trek to Lake Tahoe, NV for the Finals. Those who have accumalated enough points throughout the year compete in their respective divisions for a chance at a title belt.

In addition to the Belt Finals, Saturday evening features the annual Demo Team Competition - where from small to large, and from traditional to contemporary, demo teams from throughout California square off - team vs. team.

Demo Team Competition Victory

On Saturday, October 16th 2010, GSKA hosted its 16th Annual Clash of the Warriors Tournament in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. This year's annual Demo Team Competition featured returning teams Red Black Attack of Sacramento, CA, and the Martial Arts Club at UC Merced - reigning team champions in 2008 and 2009. New to the scene this year was Team Kemscrima-Doh of Merced, CA.

After each team performed their routines, both Team Kemscrima-Doh and Red Black Attack pulled into a tie for 1st place, and each were asked to repeat their performance. Following the tie-breaker, Team KSD proved victorious earning them another 1st place win as a team. 

Previous Demo Team Competition wins include the Northern California Open (NCO) which took place in July of 2010 and was hosted by PallenM2 under Grandmaster Max Pallen Jr.

Hall of Fame Induction

Also a part of Lake Tahoe weekend was a Hall of Fame Induction of Sifu Glenn C. Abrescy and Master Ralph Castellanos by the World Martial Arts Masters Association Hall of Fame. Representatives Master Mark Gerry and Sifu Eric Lee presented him with the award. In August, Sifu Abrescy was inducted into the GSKA Hall of Fame at the Stockton Civic Auditorium along with Grandmaster Max Togisala.

By winning the Northern California Open Demo Team Competition in July of 2010, Team Kemscrima-Doh also earned themselves a bid to perform alongside Grandmaster Max Pallen Jr.'s PallenM2 at an Oakland Raiders Half-time show. On September 4th, 2010 Team KSD stormed the field of the Oakland Coliseum along with PallenM2, Traditional Martial Arts, and Wade Taylor's Martial Arts as they performed for Raider Nation.
