Chris Abrescy

Christopher Lee Abrescy, the fourth and youngest son of Sifu Glenn C. Abrescy, was born in 1987 in San Francisco, California. Upon moving to Central Valley at age 5, he began training at the Eastwind Martial Arts Academy in Merced, CA.

Upon graduating from Atwater High School, he elected to remain in the area and be a part of the founding class of the University of California, Merced. He would go on to achieve his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management as a part of the first graduating class in 2009.

During his tenure at UC Merced, he founded the Martial Arts Club at UC Merced (MAC), serving as president for all four years. In addition to hosting the first tournament (University Martial Arts Championships) on campus, he also formed the MAC Demo Team which would earn victories in Lake Tahoe and UC Berkeley.

Since graduating from college, Chris has focused on utilizing what he has learned and applying it to the Kemscrima-Doh organization; in hopes of simultaneously managing both the Headquarters and serving the Association. He also returned to UC Merced to serve as Head Coach of the UC Merced MAT - the Official Martial Arts Competition Team of the University.

Today, Chris resides in Merced, CA where he manages daily operations and instruction at the Eastwind Martial Arts Academy. His primary goal is to help unify and grow the Association, and continue to pass on the art of Kemscrima-Doh.

About Chris Abrescy

Under the guidance of his father, Sifu Glenn C. Abrescy, he would begin to train at the age of 5 in the art of Kemscrima-Doh at the Eastwind Martial Arts Academy. Led by Mike and Marilyn Carrol, Chris would serve as one of the first students for the inaugural Tiny Tot program, one of many classes which he now teaches today.

At the age of 7, Chris would begin competing in tournaments throughout California. Specializing in traditional forms and kobudo, he is most known for utilizing the Sai and Eakku in open competition. From Bakersfield to the Bay Area, he would go on to win multiple Grand Championship titles. While his favorite home to compete in is Fresno, CA, one of his personal highlights is winning Gold and Silver at the All Hawaii State Karate Championships held in Honolulu, Hawaii for the past 50 years.

While his father has served as his instructor for the past 17 years, what he has gained the most is lessons in leadership. Following the footsteps of his father, he would go on to found the Martial Arts Club at UC Merced (MAC) in 2005. Like Kemscrima-Doh, it was an organization that was open-minded in highlighting the similarities found in numerous styles. In addition, he now serves as the Head Coach for the Martial Arts Team (MAT) of the Recreation and Athletics Department of UC Merced, founded in 2010. Although the team members stem from different styles, Chris enjoys the challenge of breaking barriers to help the various practitioners coexist and unify.

In addition to competing, performing, and representing Kemscrima-Doh, Chris has assumed all instructional duties at the Headquarters, and assists his father in operations of the United States Kemscrima-Doh Association - an umbrella to all KSD affiliates. Although he is now primarily an instructor, he still considers himself a student, continuously learning from his father, and beginning to work more with his brother Glenn R. Abrescy - who continually helps Chris refine his Escrima.
